In a recent article, Dr. Oz has recommended using homeopathy as one of a number of options for treating migraine headaches. ““Acupuncture and homeopathy are worth considering as adjunct therapies once you are sure that the headache is not a sign of serious disorder.”
Generally, Dr. Oz supports homeopathy and has featured it on his television show. He joins thousands of medical doctors, researchers and scientists who enthusiastically endorse and support the 200 year old second largest form of medicine in the world according to the World Health Organization.
The scientists who support homeopathy and are outspoken about their support include nobel prize winner Dr. Luc Montagnier, the discoverer of the AIDS virus, and Dr. Brian Josephson PhD, an emeritus professor at Cambridge University, England also a Nobel prize winner.
A recent study of using homeopathy in the treatment of migraines in children showed a very positive result. In a long term study of 1,153 homeopathy patients in France that was approved by the French National Data-Protection Commission and The French National Council of Physicians, it was shown that homeopathy patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain had a 50 percent reduced use of conventional pain medication. Homeopathy patients with acute musculoskeletal pain had a 38 percent reduced use.
Homeopathy with its over 200 year history of efficacy and safety, has also traditionally had success with migraine pain and is historically one of the first medical modalities to recognize it as a medical problem. There are a number modern studies that show homeopathy is effective in the treatment of migraines including the recent one on migraines in children.
The article was published in O, The Oprah Magazine which is a monthly US magazine founded by Oprah Winfrey and the Hearst Corporation and has an average paid circulation of over 2.6 million copies and an article by Dr. Oz suggests that homeopathy is an effective treatment for migraine headaches.
Dr. Mehmet Oz is a cardiac surgeon, a professor and Vice Chairman of Surgery at Columbia University in New York City, Director of the Cardiovascular Institute, and Founder and Director for the Complementary Medicine Program at New York Presbyterian Hospital. Oprah Winfrey said “that since Dr. Oz’s first Oprah Show appearance in 2004, he’s been both a teacher and a healer for millions of viewers.” The Oprah show had over 8 million viewers per show and Dr. Oz has his own television show now- The Dr. Oz Show.
Regulations for advertising pharmaceutical drugs changed in the early 1990s. Spending on direct-to-consumer advertising of pharmaceutical drugs in the US went from $150 million in 1993 to $4.24 billion in 2005. It is a huge revenue source for media outlets. Vox media is now a massive advertising and media company. On their web site they are leading an attack against Dr. Oz and promoting lucrative pharmaceutical company based medicine only.
In many European countries, homeopathy is practiced by medical doctors as well as professional homeopaths. In Germany alone there are over 7000 medical doctors liscenced as homeopaths. The Swiss government after an exhaustive investigation into homeopathy has adopted it under their national medical health care system. The Ontario government now has officially included Professional Homeopaths as a health discipline with their own government designation and registrar similar to Physician and Surgeons.
